A surprise visit with my Soldier, If only I could have Kidnapped him.

Michigan Soldiers homecomingInjured Michigan Soldiers HomecomingI finally got a call from Jim after not hearing from him for 2 days and he was in Germany. He was being sent back to the states to get his back looked at due to injuries.  He then went to Texas and called me from there to say he was heading to Seattle  Washington but would have a lay over in Chicago  Yes, how crazy to fly to Chicago from Texas and then head back West to Washington. When I heard there was a 2 hour lay over in Chicago, I of course had to go there to see him for 2 hours. I'm not a person who goes out of town but I just had to see him after him being in Iraq for so long. This was a spur of the moment trip where I had to leave now or miss the chance to see him for possibly months.  He had only seen the twins one day at this point also.            Started out fine.A trip to McDonalds to fill our bellies for the trip. Then Zane puked all over.. then we had to buy clothes .. Then some odd fluke after having the twins apparently, I started my time of the week. Then we had to buy Me clothes. Eventually after I think 4 toll booths we made it. It was much easier to get there than I knew it was. (Minus the horribly bad hair day and body fluid issues.)

I'm not a traveler so now I know how to go to Chicago . and well Iowa and Wisconsin due to reading the map and realizing the road we were on would take us straight  there. I bought an atlas so I was reading it on the way there and back.  Once we got there It was not all I thought it would be after not seeing him for so long. It kind of sucked. I have heard its hard to adjust after not seeing each other for so long but I had no idea until I lived it. I did not get a big enough hug. lol...and he was so busy with the formalities of paper work that had to be done for his next flight. Also we got to go back in security to see him off since we are a military family and it took forever to get through security.

Injured Michigan Soldiers Homecoming  A waste of all our time. So our 2 hours ended up one hour to really visit and so many people were talking to us. so far nothing in the military life is normal. I would have liked a few minutes alone with my husband aside from him taking me to Starbucks that was a foot away from our seats. It was nice to at least see him. He got to hold his babies. I also took Zane and the babies with us. The rest of the kids did not get to go and that was heartbreaking for me. They did not complain too much even though I could see they were heartbroken. Now we await to see if he is getting sent home or staying in Washington  Through all of this I am great full that he is in the us and safe although he is staying in a room by himself and bored out of his mind right now. He is  waiting to see what they do with him. He may be there for a few weeks or it may be a year to get surgery and recover. Over all we were sure that it was worth the trip even though it ended in disappointment that we got to see him and we could not take him home with us. We would have kidnapped him, if it were not for the whole a-wall thing they have in the military. ahh Well after this there will be no more deployments for us. I know he is disappointed not to be able to stay with his guys in Iraq and misses his family at the same time and I feel bad for that. I have learned to have  more respect for the military families and soldiers after living this life.
