A trip to birds meat this week!

In order to save big time on groceries and make sure we have stuff to make meals we do alot of stocking up on meat and try to get  canned goods when they are on sale. We also use coupons on anything we can. This also includes fast food. We try not to go to  fast food with out looking through the coupons to see where we can go the cheapest.

Birds Meat Market

This is Farm fresh meat at affordable prices that is so fresh you have to wait for it to be cut and packaged. I have been getting meat from there since I was a little girl and my mom took me. At that time you did not have to take a number and wait a half an hour to be called but it is that good! I used to attend the church these ladies went to when I was little also and they are very nice christian women. Very nice and polite and as fast as they can be as they are BUSY and hardworking. If you do go get your meat there put hats and coats on your babies as it is cold in there.

This week we bought:

(40 pounds) GROUND BEEF FROM CHUCK: $1.99LB (Makes 20 meals we use 2 pounds per meal. We also never buy all beef hamburger as it cooks down into more grease than its worth.)

(2 roasts) BONELESS BEEF ENGLISH ROAST: $2.39LB (4 meals) 4.03 per meal
(6)CHUCK ROAST 2.69# (makes 6 meals with left overs for lunch 12 ) We still have 4 left from the  last trip on 9-10-11 also. 4.03 per meal

(20 LBS)BONELESS SKINLESS CHICKEN BREAST: $1.49LB
(This made 7 large packages and will make 7 meals) 4.25 per meal

(5) BREAKFAST SAUSAGE 2.09 POUND
5 MEALS (2.09 MEAL)

(7 PACKAGES) CUBE STEAK  3.69 POUND (7.38 MEAL)
TOTAL TRIP WAS 260.00 AND MAKES 55 MEALS THIS IS THE MEAT PORTION OF THE MEAL ONLY BUT THAT IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE PART OF MEALS USUALLY!  AVERAGES 4.72 PER MEAL FOR MEAT

Check out this price comparison for the meat portion of the meal:
This is per meal to feed a family of 10 plus grandparents that stop by.
Plumbs has chicken on sale this week:

1.79 LB = 35.80 for 20 pounds ($5.11 per meal)

Regular priced is 3.49 LB =69.80 for 20 pounds ($9.97 per meal)

Birds had it on sale last week: $1.49LB = 29.80 for 20 pounds ($4.25 per meal)

As you can see it pays to shop for our meat at birds. We get what is on sale when we go there and stock up.

20 pounds made 7 large packages of chicken.I will not count on leftovers when calculating although this may make lunches for us and the babies as leftovers. When I calculate roast I count each roast as 2 meals as there is almost always leftovers for lunch the next day.
