mommy panel first two weeks of being home with your new baby

What was the most challenging thing during the first two weeks of being home with your new baby?

This one is funny when I think back to my 17 year old. My first baby. For one, I was still shy and too embarrassed to breast feed him in front of my now Ex husband. Second was that I had to take him to the bathroom with me and everywhere else I went. My mom laughed at me. She said "Miss you don't have to take the baby with you everywhere. It is okay to let him stay in the other room so you can use the restroom. Last was that I slept with my arm up in the bassinet that was next to my bed so I could feel him breathing and I checked on him every second so I got no sleep. I laugh at this but that thing where you keep making sure they are breathing does not go away with your 8th child either.

Yep! Sounds fairly normal to me. I laugh now at many of the things I did as a new parent. As a mom of four I feel like a pro now! Visiting from the T4C blog hop!

I think breastfeeding was the most challenging thing for me with my first son (who is now 4). He was the first grandchild and the entire family was around ALOT...I think I flashed my boob more than a pole dancer at a strip club!

I didn't want to leave my son for a single moment at first, but my mom and sisters were all around helping. It didn't take long before I started to relax some and let them take the reins on occasion so I could get a break.

I was not embarrassed to feed them wherever by the time I was on Matthew but I did not want to use my pump around my husband and since he would not give me privacy I quit early.

Lol! That is a funny way to put it but true and when they get close to a year they lift up your shirt for you anywhere and try to eat.

Yeah it is nice to have someone around to get a break and to realize it is okay to take one.

I remember with my first, we had a home health visit included in our plan. She came when my daughter was about 4 days old and told me that she was loosing too much weight and I had to immediately start supplementing with formula. I broke down in tears! I did so much to try to bring up my supply - pumping between feedings, "lactation cookies", lactation consultants, etc. I ended up making the choice to give up breast feeding at 6 weeks because my supply issues were too stressful! I share my story with new moms so they don't expect it to always be easy. With my second I had formula ready - we supplemented sooner but he still got some breast milk for 6 weeks.
