Holiday Traditions Linkup Win a $25 Walmart Card 25 Days of christmas

Our Holiday Traditions’

Stringing Popcorn

When I was a kid one of our favorite traditions was stringing popcorn, watching Christmas movies and trying to String more than we ate. We then would string the popcorn around the trees outside for the birds.

The best Gift we ever received!

One year the kids got Jim for Christmas.  He returned home from Iraq with his injuries to get medical care and was able to get a leave. He was stationed in Ft Lewis WA while receiving the care.  They did not know he was coming and thought we were heading to a Christmas party. There is a Video from the Television coverage here.

Christmas Birthday

Okay, I guess the true best gift we received was when Christ was born. You can make a cake for his birthday on Christmas and sing happy birthday to him! The kids love this.

The Elves on the shelf

We own an Elf that is Green. He must have gotten lost when he went back to the North Pole.  I have not seen him since before the construction. Although; he has to be as old as Santa, I have only recently heard of having him show up every day before Christmas doing something  mischievous. He normally sat on the shelf bored at our house. Tonight I bought 2 Elves a boy and Girl and asked the kids If they would want to adopt one. They have not seen them yet so they will show up on the shelf in the  morning. Wait until you read what we named them. :)

Feeding Santa s Reindeer

We love to leave some treats for the reindeer. You can make it with Glitter or fake snow flakes if you can find them mixed with Oatmeal. You can have the kids  sprinkle it in the snow.

Rudolph's Bells

You all know that reindeer have bells on, Right? Well every year it seems like one of them silly reindeer leave theirs behind.

The Tree

We have a great fake tree. I prefer a real one, since my son is helping out with Christmas Trees, I will have him get me one. He brought us a Douglass Fir tree that was nice.  The neatest Tree we ever got was brought on a Train from Santa for us the year Jim came home from the Military. You can read about it here.
I do not decorate the tree on Thanksgiving. I would love to as we always did when I was growing up. I will begin doing that again when the little ones are a little bit older. At this point I am waiting until they don’t tear the decorations down. J I now plan a day when I know all the children will be here to decorate and have a Crock pot meal ready so it is an easy day.
The Tree comes down at about 1:30 when the older kids leave and the babies go down for a nap. This helps me to organize the decorations as I pack them. Do you use Fake or real? I am curious!

Those are a few of our Christmas traditions.   I will be writing more about the Christmas season and  how we celebrate it in another post so I better stop here.

I love decorating the house from inside and out. But, the best is my kids coming home. They are spread out and that's really the only time off they have at the same time.

My favorite thing about the Christmas season is that our family reads a book together after dinner each evening between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year we're reading The Lamplighter.

Thank you so much for your kind comments. After I have recently began getting many spam comments with links in them to sites that are less than family friendly, I decided to stop allowing anonymous comments.
